How do you highlight your hair bright red over dark black?

Last time I tried to do this, my local hairdresser tried all sorts of bleaching mixtures to try and lift the black out and put red in, and it didn't work. She tried at least 5 times (I've never spent so much time in a hair salon before lol) and finally got it to show faintly. All it ended up being was a barely noticeable red tint to my hair. that's exactly how i'm dyeing my hair next week. but i think the only way to get the red in is by really really bleaching the black parts you want before doing the red. that's what i'm doing anywayHow do you highlight your hair bright red over dark black?
You have to go to a professional salon, and they will go through several processes of hair coloring. Black is really dark so its gonna take a few colors to make it go red.
