Is there a way to naturally highlight your hair if you have dark brown hair?
I have dark, brown, curly, thick hair. ((a mess, i know!)). i can't chemically highlight it. I need a way such as lemon juice, to highlight it.

Lemon juice is good, but it drys the hair.
Try a camomile infusion rinse.
Sage and rosemary rinses add reddish highlights and shine.
add a couple of tablespoons of the herbs to 2 cups of water. Bring to boil. Remove from the heat and cover for 20 minutes. Then strain the herbs out if they were loose. Let cool completely and either use immediately or store in the fridge.
Get a basin or big bowl. Your hair must be clean and wet.
Pour the cooled liguid over your hair into the bowl. Repeat several times. Add a little of your regular condition and rinse again with cool water.
You won't believe how shiny your hair will be. The color won't be dramatic though.

No. You should buy a real highlighting cap or kit, or you will end up looking like a zebra, or worse. Some highlighting kits use the paint-on method, though, and you could probably get away with doing that, if you are really careful. You will have to find a plastic wand of some sort to ';paint'; the highlights where you want them. Still, this is a risky venture and you probably ought to fork out the money for a real highlighting kit, or you will end up spending even more to correct your homemade highlights. I am a stylist and own my own salon and the most important thing I can tell you is to put the product on roots only then at the end take out all the foils and pull rest of product through the ends. If you don't do this your ends will be come over processed and break off. I only use bleach 20 volume developer because using a blonde will only bring you up 2 levels and will still leave your roots a tad brassy, Do the top and sides 1st, then do crown and back part ,roots only with a 30 or 40 developer , you will need help with this its completely impossible to foil your head alone. The best hair dye 2 lighten hair is Loreal super blonde you can buy it at Walmart it will most likely be on the very top shelf. Good luck

I would not recommend ash on top of what you have already done. The reason your hair is different colors is that the hair you already hi-lited will pull a different color and tone than the hair that wasn't hi-lited. You can try toning it with something that is a violet. You will still have different colors where the hair was hi-lited but it should counteract the yellows to a prettier blond. You can do it which ever way you'd like. If you get it done at a salon, the colorist will usually tell you what is best. I highlight mine at home - it's just above my shoulders, and I pull it thru a cap and use a box of highlighter I buy at Walgreens or CVS. Turns out great every time and it's much much much cheaper!
I think the cap is easy to use at home, once you get your hair pulled thru, you just mix the highlighting and put it on with a spatula like tool - rinse it off when you've rubbed off a bit and see the color you like.

Semi-permanent color is designed to deposit color onto the hair only and has no

raise the cuticle of the hair shaft so that the color can be deposited there. Semi-
permanent color doesn't penetrate into the cortex of the hair, but it will usually last from
six to eight weeks, gradually washing out with each shampoo.
Demi-permanent color is also a deposit-only color with no lightening effect. The
difference between the Semi- and Demi-permanent colors is that with demi-permanent
color the color molecules are smaller and therefore penetrate into the cortex of the hair,
as well as being deposited on and in the cuticle. This makes demi-permanent color a
better choice for covering gray hair. The color achieved also lasts longer, but will fade
due to the formulation of smaller color molecules being able to come back through the

Hi, Ive been trying to highlight my hair with a light red or light brown color. i used lemon juice with a little bit of oil mixed in it and when tanning in the tanning booth. When I came out it gave me a lot of blond highlights and my hair is light brown. After that I washed my hair and sqeezed lemon juice over my hair, waited a couple of minutes and then I blow-dried it and it gave me even blonder highlights!

make a tea of chamomile then add 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda when it is finished steeping add the lemon juice of 2 lemons run this through the front of your hairline with your thumbs front of your ears to the ends of your hair, if going out in the sun wear a sunscreen and maybe even zinc your nose, it can make your face really red if you have an english complexion. yes it works really well.
to hilight your hair with lemon juice, it is best to add some salt (sounds disgusting, but it is really cool!! lol) in order for it to work, u hav to be in the sunlight, so it actualy stays in your hair and lightens it up, but ive don it plenty of times and it really works! about now or in a few months wud be the time to start doing it bcuz its starting to get sunny!! :)
You run your fingers through your hair, applying it like you would with conditioner. Then go out in the sun, and let your hair air-dry it with the sun. It definitely works best in the summer. And no, you'll have to use it a few times to see satisfactory results. Good luck! :]

make a tea of chamomile then add 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda when it is finished steeping add the lemon juice of 2 lemons run this through the front of your hairline with your thumbs front of your ears to the ends of your hair, if going out in the sun wear a sunscreen and maybe even zinc your nose, it can make your face really red if you have an english complexion. yes it works really well.
to hilight your hair with lemon juice, it is best to add some salt (sounds disgusting, but it is really cool!! lol) in order for it to work, u hav to be in the sunlight, so it actualy stays in your hair and lightens it up, but ive don it plenty of times and it really works! about now or in a few months wud be the time to start doing it bcuz its starting to get sunny!! :)
You run your fingers through your hair, applying it like you would with conditioner. Then go out in the sun, and let your hair air-dry it with the sun. It definitely works best in the summer. And no, you'll have to use it a few times to see satisfactory results. Good luck! :]

it is better if you foil up your highlites then put your color on around the foils. If you are doing this yourself though color your hair rinse blowdry immdiately do the highlites after. Then condition with an acid conditioner, Nexus Ensure is great to close your hair cuticle and prevent damage and frizzies.

It's pretty simple. If you have dark hair though I wouldn't use plain lemon juice because it can make your hair orange. I use sun-in with lemon juice. You just spray it in and it conditions and lightens your hair. It works really good.

Of course you can! Just don't go platinum blonde. You can put a honey brown on or red. Something light and not too bright for summer. If you want them to really show up, you could do bleach highlights and put color on. But, be careful not to chose a color that will show that base in that color. You could be choosing a nice red, but it could show up pink. Also, be careful with too much bleaching. You can make your hair very dry with too much bleach. If you don't like the color in the highlghts after they are done, just dye your whole head.

You have to use a bleach. Try going to Sallys and get a product called ';blonde brilliance'; it comes with a cap and everything too for like 7.00. Or just go get it done if you're unsure of how to cap highlight yourself.
Don't try to highlight by yourself. There are different bleachs for dark hair. The professional hairdresser should choose certain percent to your type of hair. It's very difficult, so trust to masters.
with care a good hairdresser could put in a dark blonde caramel highlight but i'd recommend a few broad streaks for dramatic effect. lighter colour could look orangy and lots of streaks will dry and damage more of your hair. if you put them underneath your see them when you put up your hair and the regrowth will not look as bad and you won't have to re-do them so often.
I don't get you by that word *highlights*, but I certainly think you can make your hair look colourful and BRIGHTER, by dyeing it!!!!
yes you actually find highlights at a drugstore like walgreens if your doing it on your own that are specially formulated for dark hair, DO NOT get the kind that says ';vibrant'; and ';Will show up vibrant in any hair'; cause it will show up very well.
If you're getting it proffessionally done, ask your hairdresser, they can not only tell you what they think will look good in your hair but more often than not can actually give you an idea of what it will look like.
Hi all you need to do is use a 12% peroxide with the bleach to use on your hair. I would recommend you try Bblone highlight kit as it already has the 12% peroxide which is use to hightlight really dark hair, I would recommend leaving the bleach on the highlights for 2 hours or as long as you can as the longer you leave it the better result you will have if you take it off to early you will have orange or yellow highlights not the blonde you would want. If you havent previously coloured your hair with a dark colour I dont see why you would have a problem getting the blonde result you want if you leave it on for ages. Dont listen to peole when they say it stops working after a period of time as with peroxide and bleach this isnt the case.
If all else fails and you decided not to do a home highlight. The go to a really good hairdressers as they highlight peoples hair all the time even asian peoples hair so they now which voloume of peroxide they will need. It will cost a bit but it will be worth it if you want the perfect highlights.
Hair will only change 3 levels at a time and if you want light highlights you must bleach first!

For dark hair you can have 'lowlights' put through which are a bit like highlights but the colours tone much better with dark hair. My sister has pretty much black hair and had some nice copper coloured lowlights put in and they really made her hair 'come to life' and added depth. Good luck. Again, don't try it at home!!!!

Of course you can! Just don't go platinum blonde. You can put a honey brown on or red. Something light and not too bright for summer. If you want them to really show up, you could do bleach highlights and put color on. But, be careful not to chose a color that will show that base in that color. You could be choosing a nice red, but it could show up pink. Also, be careful with too much bleaching. You can make your hair very dry with too much bleach. If you don't like the color in the highlghts after they are done, just dye your whole head.

You have to use a bleach. Try going to Sallys and get a product called ';blonde brilliance'; it comes with a cap and everything too for like 7.00. Or just go get it done if you're unsure of how to cap highlight yourself.
Don't try to highlight by yourself. There are different bleachs for dark hair. The professional hairdresser should choose certain percent to your type of hair. It's very difficult, so trust to masters.
with care a good hairdresser could put in a dark blonde caramel highlight but i'd recommend a few broad streaks for dramatic effect. lighter colour could look orangy and lots of streaks will dry and damage more of your hair. if you put them underneath your see them when you put up your hair and the regrowth will not look as bad and you won't have to re-do them so often.
I don't get you by that word *highlights*, but I certainly think you can make your hair look colourful and BRIGHTER, by dyeing it!!!!
yes you actually find highlights at a drugstore like walgreens if your doing it on your own that are specially formulated for dark hair, DO NOT get the kind that says ';vibrant'; and ';Will show up vibrant in any hair'; cause it will show up very well.
If you're getting it proffessionally done, ask your hairdresser, they can not only tell you what they think will look good in your hair but more often than not can actually give you an idea of what it will look like.
Hi all you need to do is use a 12% peroxide with the bleach to use on your hair. I would recommend you try Bblone highlight kit as it already has the 12% peroxide which is use to hightlight really dark hair, I would recommend leaving the bleach on the highlights for 2 hours or as long as you can as the longer you leave it the better result you will have if you take it off to early you will have orange or yellow highlights not the blonde you would want. If you havent previously coloured your hair with a dark colour I dont see why you would have a problem getting the blonde result you want if you leave it on for ages. Dont listen to peole when they say it stops working after a period of time as with peroxide and bleach this isnt the case.
If all else fails and you decided not to do a home highlight. The go to a really good hairdressers as they highlight peoples hair all the time even asian peoples hair so they now which voloume of peroxide they will need. It will cost a bit but it will be worth it if you want the perfect highlights.
Hair will only change 3 levels at a time and if you want light highlights you must bleach first!
yes when you highlighted it though make sure that you use a lighter dye. Remember dark hair requires lighter dyes and lighter hair requires darker dye for highlightes or permant dyes.

unless you have an ultra-violet blow dryer best go out in the sun.

the suns rays give you vitamin D through your skin and hair. i think when this hits the acidity in the juice, it has a mild chemical reaction or something so yeh.... you cant use a hairdryer x
