How do I highlight my black hair burgundy/redish without it fading?

I have black hair. I have previously highlighted it succesfully copper, and redish/burgundy. However, the red I had previously faded to a dark brown. How do I highlight my hair burgundy/red without it fading? Should I bleach it first then dye over it in the red color, or no?How do I highlight my black hair burgundy/redish without it fading?
Bleaching first will allow for more color deposit and vibrancy, but it would be damaging. The real issue is how you take care of the color, too much time in the sun, hard water, clarifying shampoos dull color. Switch to color enhancing shampoos or non sulfate lines like pureology, stay out of direct sun, and buy a water filtering shower head/faucet to maintain color longer. How do I highlight my black hair burgundy/redish without it fading?
If your gonna do it yourself, and if you don't want to kill your hair by bleaching then dying it... You should buy L'Oreal hair color for dark hair. It's sold at professional beauty and hair places like Sally's. It is specially made for people with dark hair. My hair is very dark brown, almost black and the red I highlighted in my hair lasted so long (helped out by shampoo and conditioner for colored hair). I live by this dye. It's awesome!!!
the best way to have that color in your hair since it's so dark is to lighten it first, but no matter what you do red will fade, in any hair the red fades after a while.

How do I highlight my blonde hair to make it still natural-looking and pretty?

I have blonde hair that has gotten darker as I've gotten older. I just want to add some highlights that look fairly natural but lighten up my hair. Any suggestions on products or methods? How do I highlight my blonde hair to make it still natural-looking and pretty?
The most natural way would be to pull it through a cap. You can buy kits at the store that have the cap or go and get it professionally done. good luck =]How do I highlight my blonde hair to make it still natural-looking and pretty?
I would say not to use chemicals on your hair. Why don't you go for some home remedies. Egg whites, lemon juice, oil massages, reducing stress and diet changes can reduce hair fall and make it healthier. You can find more cheap, effective and natural home remedies for hair loss as well as for healthy hair at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/hairfall.htm鈥?/a>
Try using fresh lemon juice...here's what you do (very simple!)

1. Squirt the lemon over your head, but don't drench it.

2. Now bathe in the sun.

3. And the lemon should help highlight any blond left in your hair.
Any spray that says ';highlight enhancing'; or ';lightening'; should do the trick. All it requires is sitting out in the sun. My friends have said that Sun-In works which has lemon in it.
You should go for a colour a bit lighter than your current hair colour. That will keep it looking natural.

How do I highlight over previously highlighted then colored hair without it looking orangey or brassy ?

I previously had no color on my naturally ash blonde hair, only highlights from like a year ago. I just colored it with clairol - light golden blonde, it's level 8NG. My hair now looks like it's got a slight orangey color to it. It didn't turn out very golden at all. It's not horrible, but instead of coloring over it, I want to highlight it. What products should I use to ensure it's not orange highlights or brassy gold looking ? I am doing this myself. How do I highlight over previously highlighted then colored hair without it looking orangey or brassy ?

Good-Luck!!How do I highlight over previously highlighted then colored hair without it looking orangey or brassy ?
DO NOT do it yourself. It could turn a brighter orange or some color like green could come up. have it done proffesionally.
get proffesional help a lot of tints only add more colour not lift out the orange so you might just make it worse .. bleach is the best to get colour right ... hairdresser
try using a temporary blond colour like natural instincts by clairol and put it on right after you put the highlights in ... [put it on top of the frosted highlights]

the temporary colour will fade but it keeps the highlights from getting brassy:D

goodluck!

I have dark blonde hair and highlight it to make it lighter BUT I am so sick of highlights?

what other color treatments can I do?I have dark blonde hair and highlight it to make it lighter BUT I am so sick of highlights?
well heres what i think:

die your hair a little bit light of a blonde, like carmel or honey blonde. then get your roots dyed dark brown. It's the new thing that all the celebs are doing and i read about it in the L.A. times some weeks ago.

see?:http://www.latimes.com/features/lifestyl鈥?/a>

well if you decide not to do that, you can always go with a new color. try a medium brown or even a dark brown color. go extreme with a dark purple or redish color if you'd like.

the choice is yours!

hope i helped ;)I have dark blonde hair and highlight it to make it lighter BUT I am so sick of highlights?
Try one of the shampoos like Blonde expressions or the john frieda blonde collection it brings out natural blonde highlights! (Also if you want to bring out brunette low lights there is john freida brilliant brunette and brunette expressions.)
Just buy a box of Nice N Easy and apply to all of your hair.

I think in your case I would buy a shade in the medium to medium light shade of blonde........Just try going light all over...Maybe that is going to look real good on you........

If not, then you can always go back to a dark blonde shade a few weeks later......Just a thought! good luck.......

  • What is the best combination for hair color and highlight for Asian males?

well try cristiano ronaldo's or fernando torres' colors. i know they both highlighted their hair and it looked hott. cristiano had black hair with blond highlights, but not through the whole thing. fernando had brown hair with blond highlights. dont put too many highlights in your hair because it'll look like you overkilled it. but i think any of the two color combinations will look good on you. good luck. i thin it's cool that you're highlighting you hair btw. most guys dont do it so mucho kudos. What is the best combination for hair color and highlight for Asian males?
The best color and highlight for a male who is Asian would most likely kind of be the hair that your avater has. It would be brwon with blond highlights.

Has anyone used fresh squeezed lemon juice and vodka to highlight their hair?

I read this in Cosmo. Apparently, you put 1/2 cup of lemon juice and some-odd ounces of vodka in a spray bottle, then spray it in your hair. You're supposed to sit in the sun for at least 2 hours to see results. (so pack a lot of SPF. Lol!)Has anyone used fresh squeezed lemon juice and vodka to highlight their hair?
Im pretty sure it doesnt highlight but it brings out natural highlights it makes ur hair lighterHas anyone used fresh squeezed lemon juice and vodka to highlight their hair?
natural homemade hair care and bleaching process. Aluminum foil, lemon Juice on a sunny day can give you salon highlights for under $5 dollars.

Part hair or divide areas to highlight, take a strip of aluminum foil the length of hair and put a hole to slip the hair through and rest on the foil. Then apply the lemon juice to each section of hair and sit in the sun. Don't wash the hair before using this homemade hair treatment since the oily residue will protect the hair from drying out. Stand/sit in the sun for 30 minutes or until desired highlights are achieved

Hair highlighting styles sometimes evolve when celebrity hair stylists come up with new methods of applying highlights or someone develops a new highlighting style. Some of the latest looks in hair highlighting come from a new highlighting technique called painting. Painting uses a pencil to apply the color in a free hand technique. This technique blends highlights harmonically with the natural hair color to make a beautiful new styles. This tequnique has evoloved two of the looks mentioned above quite nicely, ';bit of butterscotch'; and the ';gorgeously golden'; highlighting styles.

Other looks in hair highlighting come from the three traditional highlighting techniques. The comb method is good for creating bigger blocks of highlights or for creating uneven blocks of highlights. This method of highlighting is great for ';ruby slivers'; but would also work well for ';bit of butterscotch';. The cap method is perfect for people with sensitive scalps because pieces of hair are pulled through the cap before the dye is applied. It is good for ';gorgeously golden'; and ';ruby slivers';. The last highlighting technique uses foil to wrap around highlighted strands to create highlights of different color. It can also be used to create highlights of varying widths for an uneven style. Any hair highlighting style can be accomplished with this method but it should only be attempted by an experienced hairstylist.
I haven't tried that but I know lemons work, and I think that should work as well. Go for it.
Do you mean just use that on it own as a lightener?
