Can I dye or highlight my hair while pregnant?

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and I really want to highlight my hair but I'm afraid of the chemicals. Is it safe for me and the baby to do this? Can I dye or highlight my hair while pregnant?
I think every doctor's has a different answer to this. My doctor told me that it was fine, but just to be on the safe side, she recommended waiting until after the first three months. Also, if you are getting it done in a salon, they can either use vegetable based dye, or the stylist can be careful, and not quite touch the dye to your scalp. That way, you still get your hair done, but none of the chemicals can get into your system through your skin. Can I dye or highlight my hair while pregnant?
People will probably disagree with me, but i wanted to get foil highlights done before my wedding last week as i couldn't face walking down the aisle feeling like my hair looked crap! I asked my midwife and my hairdresser if it was ok and both said yes. There is no real evidence to say that hairdyes are dangerous, and out of them all, highlights are the safest as they dont touch your scalp! I am going to keep it to a minimum, prob wont have them done again now until after baby is here, but i would say its safe.
Ive asked my own midwife about this and it is safe to dye your hair, but if you are using a home kit just make sure the room is very well ventilated to ensure you're not breathing in too many fumes!!!
NO! its not safe you cannot use any kind of hair stuff while pregnant due to the fact of all the chemicals:)
