What's the proper way to highlight hair ? Help ?

How do you highlight hair so that it doesn't look 'off' or unproper. Also, how are you supposed to highlight it ? Do you section your hair in different parts and do it or something ? And if you don't use tin foil, would it make it look messy? What's the proper way to highlight hair ? Help ?
foil puts it exactly where u want and it looks a ton better

and you dont have to section but itll be better and even and highlight it when its starts fading or growing out

hope this heplsWhat's the proper way to highlight hair ? Help ?
You can do it which ever way you'd like. If you get it done at a salon, the colorist will usually tell you what is best. I highlight mine at home - it's just above my shoulders, and I pull it thru a cap and use a box of highlighter I buy at Walgreens or CVS. Turns out great every time and it's much much much cheaper!

I think the cap is easy to use at home, once you get your hair pulled thru, you just mix the highlighting and put it on with a spatula like tool - rinse it off when you've rubbed off a bit and see the color you like.
you mean in a box, or at the salon? ive gotten it done at the salon, and you can get foils or a cap. with foils they just seperate the hair you want highlighted, paint on the dye, and wrap it in foil then let it sit. with caps, they wrap a tight cap on your head, then poke through the holes which are marked on the cap, and it gives you more of an all around color, but hurts a little bit. then they let it sit. i dont know about from a box. i suppose it would say in the instructions.
if ur doing it urself, get the dye that's specifically for highlighting. first off, it makes the color better, and second, it has the tools u need. make the dye mixture and put it in the squeeze bottle, then squeeze lines on the brush and just kinda string it through your hair where ever u want it. hope this helps! good luck!
