Why do some hair stylists highlight to lighten hair and some do a full head dye?

My stylist prefers the highlight method, steadily lightening my hair. Yet many of my friends have gone from brown hair to platinum in one visit. I wish mine would do the one visit, highlights are more expensive! Although my hair is light blonde already, I would like it to be lighter. What are the pros and cons of each method? Why do some hair stylists highlight to lighten hair and some do a full head dye?
I think the way your hairstylist is doing is what I would prefer, because it makes it look more natural you know? If you get it done all at once it is faster but it could be a shock trust me! Just tell her how you want it. But she may be doing this to see if you like it instead of doing it all at once she's seeing what your reaction is, to see if you just want sweeps of color or the whole thing. Why do some hair stylists highlight to lighten hair and some do a full head dye?
A hair stylist should do what you ask them.

I have highlights because I don't want to go back to the salon every month to get my roots done. Highlights generally look more natural (unless you get lots or do an extreme difference in colour).

If you want the platinum look I would keep your hair short to mid-length so you don't look like a bimbo and your hair won't be fried. Also if my hair stylist didn't want to do what I wanted then I would find another one. After all you are the customer.
tell ur hair stylist what u want. if ur not happy with what he does, tell him. ur paying him , remember?
