What age is appropriate to let girl highlight hair?

~Opinions from other parents please~

At what age do you think it's appropriate to allow a girl to get highlights in her hair? Nothing outrageous, just highlights a couple shades lighter than her natural color.

My parents were old fashioned and didn't allow me to do anything with my hair until I got out of High School. I think that's extreme %26amp; I feel kids should be able to express themselves with their hairstyles.

What are your thoughts? What age is appropriate to let girl highlight hair?
I first lightened my air when i were 11 years old and have just recently helped my little sister do hers she is 12.

I think 11 -12 is a fine age. What age is appropriate to let girl highlight hair?
My mother let me get blonde highlights when I was in 6th grade. Report Abuse

I would think middle school she should be able to start making her own choices on hair style, however because hair color is a chemical treatment and can be much damaging that colr should be approved by you for at least a while to help her learn what works on her, with the involvement of the colorist.

Once they are older say 16 I would let them have even more freedom to do whatever they want. By allowing things gradually you help them learn how to make good decisions.
My daughter is 12 and does as she pleases with her hair... I do not care it is hair and can always be redone... she is in her 1st year of highshcool but i let her start in grade 6
I'm not a parent, but a teenager.

I think that 13-15 is an appropriate time to let a girl get her hair highlighted. By this time they should be able to make their own decisions about their hair and makeup as long as it's not affecting their health.

They might want to use a washable dye first to see if they like the effect, though.
I think about 13 is right. I was allowed to when i was 14. It's a good experience.
hey dear be chill, what they say is just good for u...............u have a long life to go so just donttake risk with ur hair at this age itself
im not a parent, but i just asked my mom what she thought and she said that 13 is about a good time to let a girl highlight her hair
♥Any age, highlights are ';in';
Never. The hair becomes unhealthy and the color that you were born with is the one that goes along best with you.
I would say 12 or 13 would be okay if it is still a normal hair color. Not pink or anything.
i was 11 when i had my hair first highlighted.
this might sound weird but when I was 10 my mom and her mom let me get a blue streake in my hair and my friend got a pink one it looked really cool!
I think it would be fine to the girl get highlights in highschool.
I'm not a parent, but I'll answer anyways.

I think the appropriate age for girls to highlight their hair is about 13 to 15. Possibly 12, if they have very good hair care. Under 12 is way to early though. (Did someone above me seriously put 7!?!)
depending on the kid i guess, but probably in high school when they can get a job and pay for it themselves, that's the best answer for when to get highlights cause then your parents can't use to ';you're too young'; argument on you too harshly.
my sister got her's when she was 13
10-13 is a normal age. I will let my daughter when she asks. It's no big deal as long as there isn't any black involved or pink or anything out there. But some shades of blonde are fine.
I wasn't allowed to anything cosmetic, even wear make-up, until my senior yr so for my daughter (when I have her) it will be ';Not till your 15';.
i first got mine done at 12.

nothing drastic.

it was about becoming a teenager for me.

it made me feel girly.

Ive got rid of them now, I'm coming up to 16.

Ive experimented with my hair colour, bought a chocolate truffle colour this morning acctually.

i never went off the rails with it either.

i still look respectible, no peroxide!
well my parents let me dye my hair blonde when i was in the seventh grade
hair highlights look dumb on blonde people.
