All of the answers so far are basically correct, just squeeze it on and go out in the sun or apply heat with a dryer. I would also caution to protect your skin while you're at it. Your hair will grow back if you fry it. Frying your skin, however, can have much more of a damaging effect on your life. Also be aware that any of these methods tend to make your hair pull towards red. If' you want to get a all over lighter appearence you could get a highlighting done. It will make you lighter but as long as you don't go too heavy you won't have those nasty roots to deal with later.

Hydrogen peroxide works. It's cheap. You get it at the drugstore. It's usually beside the rubbing alcohol. Just put some in your hair while you're taking a shower.

Lemon Juice barely lightens hair. It does more damage to it then it does lighten it. Just use normal Hair bleach.
