How long do i have to wait before i can highlight my hair ?

I dyed my hair black today , how long should i wait to put highlights in it without damaging my hair ? How long do i have to wait before i can highlight my hair ?
Professionally, I would suggest that you don't get highlights, especially on dyed black hair. This is only going to cause more damage to your hair. You will have to use very high lift color to get it light enough for your approval.

If you must add the highlights, I would wait at least 2 weeks and make sure you are using professional shampoo and conditioner. How long do i have to wait before i can highlight my hair ?
wow its going to suck majorly to try to put highlights in next time try to do the highlights then dye arround it. its almost impossible to bleach over black with out turning orange or frying your hair. i suggest not doing it your self since its going to take a high volume of blue and violet bleach.''

good luck
at least a few days... dying your hair in the first place damages your hair...ive actually dyed my hair twice in 1 day because the my hair went bright orange copper and school was the next day so i had to dye some black into it.. it didnt damage my hair a lot but mostly i get split ends here and there cause i keep my hair long...

and some highlights dont involve bleaching

How can i highlight my hair with bleach without going to the salon?

am trying to highlight my hair at home to get the same highlight i see on celeb without going to salon and pay fortune of money. i have tried and highlight it i have added bleach that i have bought from the pharmacy for a $1 or maybe more and mix it with oxygen 9% and i have left it on my hair between 30-45 minutes it did bleach but i did not get the result i really like and want, so can you help me out with that thanks in advanceHow can i highlight my hair with bleach without going to the salon?
You really need to see a professional for this. Drug store bleaching kits are a pain in the butt. And celebs have multiple colored highlights to add many levels of dimension...All over color is one thing, but highlights are something you need to go a salon for, especially if you want professional looking results. How can i highlight my hair with bleach without going to the salon?
You have to mix bleach with developer to get it to really work. Well this would be a lot easier if you hadn't already done it, sigh. You don't want to re bleach when you have already done, even though it didn't go light enough it is still very brittle so you will need to fill it with dye first. Did you use hair bleach or laundry bleach (if use used laundry bleach your situation is worse). Go to a supply store like Sally's and get a high lever blonde that you want... ash so 9A, 10A or 11A and mix it with a developer. I can't see your hair so you're going to have to ask a stylist there what volume to get. Don't try to use a box color... that dye is isualy bleach and you will have alot of breakage and dryhair that can't always be repaired, it may just have to be cut.
A natural way of highlighting, is to put lemon juice in your hair and sit in the sun for a while. The lemon acts as a bleaching agent.

Also, even though i would not recommend it as it completely ruined my hair, but SUN IN is a highlighter. If you spray it in when your hair is wet and dry it with a hair dryer, it lightens it.
ok I never go get it done i always do it myself and I don;t think its that hard. I get a white out kit at hot topic or just a bleach kit its really simple. Just mix it how its says and it will be pretty easy.
by a highlighting cap,

bleach, and peroxide. you can get it all of Ebay

Do you think I should highlight my hair and if so, should I use a drugstore brand or go to a salon?

I have natural blond hair and everyone tells me I shouldn't mess with it and just be happy to be a natural blond. It's a dark blond though and I want that light, sun-kissed blond look like the girls on The Hills and Laguna Beach! My hair is long and thick and very wavy. It tends to be dry which is caused either by our well water or my hair being so thick and wavy. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg, is there a drugstore brand that won't totally damage my hair? Should I try just using sun-in since I'm going to Florida for a couple of weeks? Any opinions appreciated. Thanks.Do you think I should highlight my hair and if so, should I use a drugstore brand or go to a salon?
you should go to a salon. i do my own highlights but i was taught by an expert. the sun in workd but, it doesn't last very long in my hair. if you do it yourself, be sure to use a pre-color conditioner to prevent even more damage to your hair. you should also try doing conditioning treatments on your hair weelky or bi-weekly. that will help with the dryness. garnier fructis makes a good, inexpensive treatment.Do you think I should highlight my hair and if so, should I use a drugstore brand or go to a salon?
i think you should highlight it and umm i would go to a salon cuz you never know if you can trust the drug store brands
you should try out other colors as well but I will say go to Salon
The salon uses the same stuff to dye your hair, but the salon has the experts, if you want a good job, pay the bucks and then at least you will have a comeback if your hair turns purple
Try the sun-In but nothing stronger ubless you go to a salon.. can be very messy, trust me I speak from painful experience... :)
go to the salon they are experts, so ask them
Yeah id go to the salon chick, that way you know that professionals are dealing with your hair. Ive fiddled with my hair before and regretted it afterwards..
Thats sun kissed blonde is what many die for, i had it for a while but i missed being natural. if that color is really what you want then spend the extra dollars to get it right. messing around with your hair will only result in bad caps pulled over your hair until you can get it fixed.
Since you have natural blond hair, I would suggest going to a salon, I would not do it yourself. The chances of runining you hair and causing breakage is higher because of the color of your hair.

  • Should I highlight my hair again or dye it brown?

I've been highlighting (professionally) my naturally light brown-dark blonde hair for years now and I finally stopped because my hair was breaking off so badly all over (even at the top,so my hair was shorter in heavily highlighted places). I dyed it a light brown (professionally)twice and now it is fading into red (which I HATE) and I don't know whether it will be too damaging to get highlights again. Should I highlight it or just dye it a darker brown. It's about to be summer time and I will be outside a lot.Should I highlight my hair again or dye it brown?

Should I get bangs and highlight my hair?

I have long curly brown hair, and it frizzes easily.

I'm not sure about bangs, beause of my curly hair.

Any suggestions?Should I get bangs and highlight my hair?
if you want to get bangs, you'll really have to straighten and condition your hair...its a lot of workShould I get bangs and highlight my hair?
don't get bangs unless you have a LONG time to fix your bangs

    (I made the same mistake)
If you do get bangs because of your curly hair it would be more work for you.As for the highlight it can make the hair frizzier.
    I would definitely say bangs..

    How Fabulous they look..

Is there a way to naturally highlight your hair if you have dark brown hair?

I have dark, brown, curly, thick hair. ((a mess, i know!)). i can't chemically highlight it. I need a way such as lemon juice, to highlight it.

Any ideas? Is there a way to naturally highlight your hair if you have dark brown hair?
Lemon juice is good, but it drys the hair.

    Try a camomile infusion rinse.

Sage and rosemary rinses add reddish highlights and shine.

add a couple of tablespoons of the herbs to 2 cups of water. Bring to boil. Remove from the heat and cover for 20 minutes. Then strain the herbs out if they were loose. Let cool completely and either use immediately or store in the fridge.

Get a basin or big bowl. Your hair must be clean and wet.

Pour the cooled liguid over your hair into the bowl. Repeat several times. Add a little of your regular condition and rinse again with cool water.

You won't believe how shiny your hair will be. The color won't be dramatic though.

Another thing you could go to a salon a commercial herbal rinse too.Is there a way to naturally highlight your hair if you have dark brown hair?
    Hello,

Well, you did mention lemon juice, which is a way to lighten it. Also, spending time out in the sun may naturally lighten your hair. Keeping your hair healthy is important, also.
Use lemon juice and sit out in the sun.. if you do it enough it will work. I used to do that when I was younger and not allowed to dye my hair.
ya ur right squeez lemon juice all over ur head, put a shower cap on %26amp; sit in the sun!!!!!! i no ul luk like a dork but ul luk awesome after!!!!!

Im want to highlight my hair, any ideas on how to make a homemade highlighting cap?

I bought a box of regular hair dye because its the color i want for my high lights..so it doesnt come with a cap. i wanted to know if and what i could use to make a homemade highlighting cap. before i go out an buy one.

it would be very helpfulIm want to highlight my hair, any ideas on how to make a homemade highlighting cap?
No. You should buy a real highlighting cap or kit, or you will end up looking like a zebra, or worse. Some highlighting kits use the paint-on method, though, and you could probably get away with doing that, if you are really careful. You will have to find a plastic wand of some sort to ';paint'; the highlights where you want them. Still, this is a risky venture and you probably ought to fork out the money for a real highlighting kit, or you will end up spending even more to correct your homemade highlights. Good luck!Im want to highlight my hair, any ideas on how to make a homemade highlighting cap?
You can use a plastic shower cap and use the hook that you use to pull through a regular cap to poke and pull it through the shower cap.
I think they are really cheap at beauty supply stores. Like a dollar or so.

If you are confident you can do it at home, feel free. But color is really risky and I'd pay a pro. You don't want to pay a pro to fix an at home job, that's just salt in a wound.
Buy one they are like 50p hehe.

Would be so much easier and less effort.
I agree with Kim T, try freehand streaking it would look cooler anyway. What you can do to the little chunks you streak is to cover them with a small piece of ';clear wrap'; like the aluminum foil but plastic ...know the one?

    Ciao!
